We had a major issue yesterday with students not following along in math, actually, all day. It was very close to lunch time, and instead of making the kids work out the remaining 3 practice problems on their own, I was going to do it with them. Most of the kids were not paying attention, though, as they were too concerned about lunch. Since they weren't following along, I made them take their books to lunch to finish the 3 prac. problems. I read the directions orally several times, explained them, and told them before they worked the problems to read the directions again and make sure they completed both steps. I still had many students not follow directions, so I'm assigning them additional work to do as a consequence. This must be completed by tomorrow or they will owe me recess.
